Mani Ratnam’s Kaatru Veliyidu has taken a flying opening in Chennai City, the veteran director’s fortress. The film has netted a whopping Rs 1.55 Cr (approximate) and it is tax free. It is the clear number one in the CBO thanks to solid advance booking.

The number two is AGS Entertainments KV Anand directed Vijay Sethupathi biggie Kavan which has been declared a hit. The film has netted around Rs 2.55 Cr in 10 days from Chennai city, which is impressive for a Vijay Sethupathi film and is at number two.

In the third place is Nayanthara’s Dora, which has grossed around Rs 1.30 Cr from Chennai city in 10 days. The A certificate has hurt the business prospects of the film, as there is a 30 % tax component.

And at number four is 8 Thottakal which got good reviews but the limited release, will not make it profitable. Beauty And The Beast, remains steady at number five with the schools closing for the summer holidays.
