Chennai: M. Natarajan, husband of V.K. Sasikala, underwent a surgery on Wednesday. The operation for transplant of liver and kidney has since been clouded in controversy.
As per AIADMK rebel leader T.T.V. Dinakaran -- Natarajan's wife's nephew -- the 74-year-old is progressing well. Dinakaran was addressing the media outside the Gleneagles Global Hospital.
Although Sasikala had sought parole from the Parapanna Agrahara in Bengaluru to be by her husband's side, her application was rejected on grounds that it was incomplete.
Critics alleged that the organs for Wednesday's surgery were harvested from N. Karthick, a 19-year-old labourer who was shifted in an air ambulance from the Government Hospital in Thanjavur allegedly against medical advice.
It was reported that the labourer was taken out of the hospital without his family's consent.
The organ donor had suffered severe fractures and head injuries in an accident on Saturday. He was reportedly brain-dead when he was airlifted from Thanjavur to Chennai.
However, the hospital denied that any rules were flouted, yet failed to specify the conditions in which Karthick's family managed to move him from one destination to another.
