Former India skipper Rahul Dravid stressed on the fact that matches can be won even by players who don't flash tattoos and that the performance of the player counts.

'The Wall', speaking at the Bangalore Literature Festival came in support of Virat Kohli's aggression but said that it is the performance that matters at the end of the day.

"Virat sometimes comes across as outrageous and I cringe on reading his statements before a series. But if he can bring the best out of himself by needling the opposition, so be it," Dravid said.

Dravid admitted that he could never be like Virat with tattoos and had words of encouragement for the young skipper.

"We want a little bit of lip on the field."

However, the legendary India cricketer warned young players not to copy Kohli blindly.

Dravid was speaking at a session titled 'Democracy XI' along with senior journalists Prem Panicker and Rajdeep Sardesai.

Sardesai, who has penned down the book asked Dravid what he felt about the Anil Kumble and Virat Kohli saga that saw the Kumble stepping down as coach of the Indian team.

Although Dravid came in support of his former India team-mate, he played down the issue saying it is 'quite common that coaches always get sacked.'

"It is unfortunate for a legend who was part of the highest number of winning Indian teams to see unceremonious departure. At the same time, it is quite common that coaches always get sacked. I also am the Under-19 Indian team coach. I may also be sacked."

When asked when MS Dhoni should retire, Dravid said, "People might have different opinions on when Dhoni should retire. But, if the selectors have selected him, he can play for India as long as he wants."
