Like it has been with most matches in this World Cup, once again cricket logic prevailed.

The better team won the final and the best team in the tournament is the champion. Many felt that New Zealand winning the toss and batting first was a big advantage considering that it was a big game.

I somehow did not feel the same way, only because Australia did not have an obvious weakness, like South Africa had when chasing targets or like India, with their bowling needing a big score to defend.

Sign of a good team is that the toss does not make much of a difference to their chances of winning or losing. Australia was such a team in this competition.

For me the tone of the match was set by Mitchell Starc with the way he bowled his first three deliveries to Brendon McCullum in which he got him out too. That start showed the skills, aggression and the sharp cricket sense of Starc first and then the team.

It would have been great for world cricket had New Zealand won but results in sports don't pan out as per popular emotion. If that was the case, India would have been World Champions.
